Inquiry

At Southmoor Primary School the staff celebrate our teaching methods by educating students within an integrated curriculum. Integrated units of work are based on topics of relevance, current affairs and interests of our students. Guided by the students' feedback, all teaching staff are allocated time in their supportive, innovative level teams to plan for a complete Unit of Inquiry. Topics are studied over a term, providing a relevant, enriched learning environment for all students. Students learn to make real-life connections by exploring the 'way the world works'. The essence of this approach to planning is to encourage our students to draw from and build on personal knowledge and experience - extending their individual understanding further by utilising 'higher order thinking skills'. All learning in this area is based on a life-long learning approach, enabling students to then apply their knowledge to new areas.
